Use tags when contributing

When you contribute, make sure your content contains the correct tags. If you are unsure whether a tag is appropriate for your material, compare it to the representations provided below. You could technically avoid labelling, but it is preferable to do it now rather than later.

Creating new tags

If you cannot find a suitable tag, establishing one may not be the best option.

The first rule of thumb is to determine if your content can be categorised using an existing tag. If you can't locate the right tag, feel free to make your own.

Make sure the new tag you generate isn't too narrow in scope. It is preferable to have a few number of highly flexible tags rather than a big number of single-use tags. Ask a coworker or acquaintance for comments on if a tag is overly descriptive.

Tags are intended to make content grouping and sorting easier, allowing you to identify relevant pages within a sea of information. Tags can indicate if a piece of information is minorly linked to the tag's topic or whether it is the most important element on the page.
